Until 2008, some commentators doubted whether lawsuit funding advances were legal in the state of Ohio. The Rancman case, in part, created some of this doubt. However, doubt was resolved in 2008 when the state legislature codified Ohio citizens' rights to receive lawsuit funding advances. This article presents the salient features of the new Ohio non-recourse litigation advance law and analyzes the requirements imposed on lawsuit funding companies. The best and most ethical legal funding companies, such as LawCash, already adhere to these requirements in all of their legal funding contracts.
